ABOUT
A full time woodworker, Syd Dunton has his home and studio in the mountains of Los Gatos, California. He attended San Jose State University where he received his Bachelor's degree in Art and his Master's degree in Sculpture.
Trained as a cabinetry maker, Syd has been designing and building wine cellars for 18 years. For the last 8 years, his attention has been on studio furniture, with pieces in art galleries and in private collections across the country.
Syd is an active member in The Furniture Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring creativity, promoting excellence, and fostering understanding of the art of furniture making. Syd is also a part of South Bay Woodworkers, a group active in sharing the excitement of working in wood.
Upon viewing Syd's work, one is immediately aware of his love and appreciation for the unique and innate beauty that each piece of wood offers. The natural edge of a slab is often displayed; saw marks from the felling or the sawmill-coded painted edge are incorporated to make pieces distinctive.
